Jog Falls

Jog Falls - recorded on 04.008.2013 during peak monsoon and when Linganamakki released 45K cusecs water into Sharavathi

The world famous Jog Falls is in Sagara taluk of Shimoga in Karnataka. This fall is formed by Sharavathi River, which true to its name flows in a speed of arrow, falls down to from a height of 253 m (830 ft) at Gerusoppa in the thickest evergreen rainforests of Western Ghats. This mighty river, in its very short journey of 130Kms from Thirthahalli into the Arabian Sea at Honnavara, gives more to Karnataka than any river should. Jog, which looks most beautiful in the backdrop of greenery of Westren Ghats is created by its four distinct waterfalls. Linganamakki dam which caters to the generation of Hydro Electrcity, captures most of its water and generates power throughout the year. Honnemaradu is a well-known picnic spot created by Linganamakki backwaters.

Jog is well connected with nearest railway station being Talaguppa. Sagara is reachable by road which is around 300Kms from Bengaluru and from here Jog is 35Kms
