My Native

Mattu, my native, also called Matti, is a small and immensely beautiful village. This place is in Katapadi, Udupi. It is central place to many important places like Mangalore, Suratkal, Kateel, Kaup, Kunjaru Giri, Pajaka Kshetra, Udupi, Malpe, Kollur,Maravanthe, Murdeshwara, Kodachadri, Agumbe etc.
The details of each of these places, you will find in my other posts.
The following photos are from around my house.

Kundadri

We (me, Ramesh and Rohit) were already in Shringeri on 28th January 2012, after visiting Koosalli Falls in Udupi. As planned, we got up at 5 in the morning and in no time we were driving towards Kundadri. It was freezing cold, a typical Shringeri weather and had to turn the heater on.  The visibility was on road was hardly 50 fts. This made us wonder to a great extent, the success of our visit. Rightly so because previously when we went to Kundadri during September 2011, we could only see the clouds and ground under our feet. The clouds during monsoon will be denser than Agumbe itself and so is the rain.

After 30 KMs and 45 minutes’ drive towards Thirthalli, we were on the peak. We were expecting a spell binding panorama of western ghtats. But, what we saw was purely unbelievable. The entire region was mist covered. Except for some tips of the peaks, everything was white blanketed. I never imagined morning mist can cover such a vast land so thickly. Even though sun has already risen, he was not yet fully up the mist, even at 6.50 Am.  It was well after 7 am that we could see sun clearly. It was a life-time experience, being in the middle of what seems to be a vast sea of mist.

After spending an hour it was time to return to Someshwara, down the winding Agumbe Ghat, from where we will be starting another trek to Onake Abbi Falls.

I have to come back again here to relish the greenery around here and then watch sun setting down the Arabian Sea before forming a yellow water line formed by reflecting rays on sea water. That, in another clear day.
