Kyathanmakki

Kyathanmakki / Kyatanamakki is a hill station near Horanadu of Chikmagalur in Karnataka.
Even though the Jeep takes you to the top a trek through the trail crossing hills is a great experience.
We were on the spot at 6am, already trekked 2 kms, ready for the sunrise. Clouds stood guard overnight and were in no mood to let go. We too determined not to give up proceeded further. By 8am reached the base.. embraced and welcomed by the wilderness. Still cloudy..

And then as was the practice, we continued to ascend the tallest peak leaving behind the plains. Clouds got thicker and thicker and drizzles turned downpour. This time the view from up here wasn't nice. Lost in the clouds, we started losing direction and forced to retreat. Getting down, we head to plains, not knowing what lies ahead. At first it looked like a road to nowhere..

But as we proceeded beyond the plains, there was a spectacular landscape that appeared surreal. As skies opened up, the 'Nityotsava' of Karunadu on the ranges of Sahyadri was on full swing and the whole spectrum of colors was on display.

Wast expanse of Kyathanmakki appeared as a jewel in the crown called Kudremukh on the head of Sahyadri, the Western Ghat Ranges of Karnataka.

There may be 'God's Own Country' elsewhere. But, only Karnataka can be 'God's Holiday Home'.

During first week of April 2016, we visited Kyatanamakki again for a sunrise. It was a spectacular landscape, completely different picture.
