Irpu Falls (Iruppu Falls)

The Irpu or Iruppu falls is in Kutta in Madikeri (Coorg). River Lakshmana Theertha takes this giant leap from Brahmagiri hill ranges of Western Ghats at this picturesque location. The river joins Kaveri River at KRS Dam, Mysore.

From Bangalore it is around 250Kms via Mysore – Hunsur – Nagarahole - Kutta – Arpu, where a drive through the jungles of Nagarahole will be a thrilling and refreshing experience.

The hamlet and the picturesque location

A simple walk of around 1Km takes to the base of Irpu falls. A small hanging bridge en route.

As it was monsoon and falls in full force, entry near to the base was prohibited.

The famous trek route to the Brahmagiri peak starts from this waterfall. The notice board shows  the trek routes, important peaks around, place of Narimale Trekker's Rest house etc.

The board in Kannada says:

This Lakshmana Theertha River flows down fascinatingly through the hills and mountains for about 51 Kms before creating this eye-candy waterfall. From here this river flows north-west and joins River Rama Theertha and thereafter changes direction to north-east and joins Kaveri in Mysore.

The Malabar Banded Peacock (Papilio Buddha), one of the India’s most attractive butterflies can be commonly seen here.

Irpu Shri Rameshwara Temple is another attraction here. The temple presently is under renovation.
