Onake Abbi Falls

The Onake Abbi Falls is in Someshwara reserved forest inside the majestic Agumbe region of Western Ghats which receives incessant rain from July to November.


One has to trek (moderate to difficult level) for 6 KMs from Someshwara bus-stand. The route involves breath taking views of Ever Green Rain-Forests of Agumbe. The place is highly leech infested. 






·         Onake (Pounding Stick, in Kannada language, a long round wooden pole used for pounding grains)  Abbi (Falls) is in Agumbe, 380 km away from Bangalore which is  accessible via Tumkur – Shimoga – Thirthahalli or Chikmaglur – Sringeri. Further 55 km down westwards is Udupi. All these routes offer some scenic landscape and different tourist destinations.
·         The trek length is 6 km one way on a moderate to difficult trail.
·         Starting point is Somewhwara 10 km from Agumbe

·         Best time to visit – December to March

    I am planning for a 2 days trek to Onake Abhi falls this Christmas.
    As a tourist, I have reached top of the falls. This time I want to trek and reach base of the falls.
    Could you please share the trek route details like from where to start, can we camp, how many kms,, any permission required etc. to sanand07@gmail.com.
